Honestly can we as Marlins fans really complain about anything after a game like this?
Pablo López was solid over his 5.1 innings of work. He allowed four hits (no runs) and two walks while striking out reigning NL MVP Bryce Harper twice. With his stuff it would have been nice to see more K's, but it's about the team right? The win (no matter which pitcher gets credit) is the most important.
The bullpen took it home after Pablo, allowing only the one run over 3.2 innings. Louis Head, Richard Bleier and Shawn Armstrong finished off the 6th, 7th and 8th while striking out three before Orlando's Daniel Castano came in and picked up the save in the 9th.
One more thing I want to talk about before we get to the big story of the night. There was one defensive play in particular that I want to bring up. ALL STAR JOEY WENDLE SHOWED UP! It was so nice to see. I know I've been critical of him in the past, but that's all in the past. I <3 Joey Wendle. Never leave us.
NOW. The story of the game. THE OFFENCE IS ALIVE!
Honestly even looking at the box score this morning makes me happy. It's as if Oprah was there saying YOU GET A HIT! AND YOU GET A HIT! AND YOU GET A HIT!
EVERY. SINGLE. STARTER. GOT. ON. BASE. WITH. A. HIT.
Jazz drove in two with a triple. Jesús Sánchez (who I happened to pick up yesterday in my fantasy baseball league) drove in two with a double and a triple (he now leads the Majors in triples). Jesús Aguilar drove in three.
I'm not sure which I'm happier about. I mean it's great to Jazz continue to show his speed and his offensive prowess. I love seeing Jeezy continue to pour it on. Honestly though seeing Aguilar finally get his bat going this season is probably what I liked the most.
Aguilar led the Fish in 2021 in HR and RBI. He's still looking for his first dinger of the season, but it must feel so good to not have zero's on the board anymore.
Jazz now leads the Marlins with 7 RBI. He's tied for the team lead in HR with Sánchez, who sits second in team RBI with 6. Jesús also leads the team with 9 hits.
I'm calling it now. As long as they stay healthy, both Jazz Chisholm Jr and Jesús Sánchez will be at the All Star Game.
Oh. Back to Wendle for a minute. He got the first stolen base of the season for Miami. WIth the speed the Marlins bring every night it certainly won't be the last.
The Fish now sit at 3-4 on the season and are out of the NL East basement. That spot now belongs to the Phillies.
