July 8, 2022: Marlins 5, Mets 2

I have to say that was needed after last night's embarrassment.

Pablo López fanned five over five innings. Bryan De La Cruz went three for three and drove in one. Garrett Cooper hit a home run.

As much as there's always things that need to be improved on EVERY team, I feel like I'm being too picky complaining after the Fish beat one of the best teams in the Majors.

The bullpen saw four full innings of action tonight divided evenly between Dylan Floro, Anthony Bass, Steven Okert and Tanner Scott. Were they spectacular? No. Did they get the job done? Yes. That's enough for me tonight.

One thing that both Pablo and the 'pen did is keep one of the best in the game from making an impact on the scoreboard. For the second night in a row, Pete Alonso went 0/4. That's another huge win for the Fish.

I want to take a second to talk about the man who should be an All Star. Garrett freakin' Cooper. He's been the glue that's held the Marlins together this season. He's already at 40 RBI (ten off his career high). He's hitting .307 on the season. Let's show him the love, Marlins fans.

One other player who I mentioned earlier that has been really heating up as of late is De La Cruz. He was three for three tonight with three doubles (you ready that right) and a walk. Yimi García was good for the Fish last season before he was dealt to the Astros, but I wouldn't undo that trade for a second. De La Cruz has been outstanding.

The Marlins are now at 40-42 on the season. That's a lot better than most expected of them at this point.

Onwards and upwards.
