April 24, 2022: Marlins 5, Braves 4

It's hard not to be happy after a series win against not just a divisional rival but also the defending World Series champions.

Jesús Luzardo pitched a gem, with a final stat line of two hits, one earned run, four walks and eight strikeouts over five innings of work. He's had three starts on the season so far and he's been pretty dang good in two of them. Moving forward I'm going to assume the game against St Louis isn't a sign of things to come.

I like staying positive so I'm not going to talk about the bullpen. They weren't terrible, but they made this one a LOT closer than it should have been. Let's just leave it at that. Louis Head picked up the save.

Other than Luzardo, the thing that I liked the most about this game is where the offence came from. Jazz didn't get a hit. Jesús Sánchez didn't get a hit. Garrett Cooper drove in two, with Joey Wendle, Jacob Stallings and Avisaíl García driving in the other runs.

Jorge Soler, Wendle, García, Cooper and Stallings all had at least one double. Jon Berti hit a triple. How can you not be happy about that?

Don't get me wrong, with the amount of money the Marlins are paying Soler and García they should be producing every single game in some way, but right now they're not Miami's best players and so far they haven't really been producing. Both showed more signs of life this weekend so let's hope it continues during the week against Washington.

I know it's still early in the season but look at the tweet below. How nice does it feel to see the Marlins in second place in the NL East. Bring on the Nationals.
