There's not much to say about this one..the box score says it all.
Both Jazz and Jesús Sánchez sat.
Trevor had a rough start (to put it mildly).
Jon Berti ran into Garrett Cooper (knocking Coop out of the game).
Are there any positives to take out of this mess? A few.
Despite thinking that it'd turn into a position player pitching kind of game, the bullpen did a decent job at limiting any damage. They allowed three runs (one earned) and seven hits over seven innings. Four hits came off Cody Poteet, who took over for Rogers in the second inning and lasted 3.1 innings.
The last three innings were handled by Tanner Scott, Steven Okert and Daniel Castano. Now HERE'S a bright spot. Over their combined three innings of work, only two hits were allowed, no runs (earned or otherwise) and they struck out a combined five batters. Scott struck out three in his one inning.
I'm really starting to get on board with this new-look pen.
Another big positive takeaway for me from this game is the fact that the three Marlins runs came from home runs.
Jorge Soler hit a monster shot to left and Avisaíl García hit a dinger to centre.
The two new guys, who Miami is each paying $12M this season, finally showed up offensively. Let's hope that continues.
The final positive to take away from the big loss: it's just one game. There's still 154 more.
Let's go Marlins.
