March 26, 2022: Marlins 9, Cardinals 2

Updated: Apr 24, 2022

I know it's Spring Training and means next to nothing in the grand scheme of things, but OH MY GOODNESS WAS THAT FUN TO WATCH!

Batting around the order. Solar going two for two. A three-run homer from Jesús Aguilar. ALL IN JUST THE FIRST HALF INNING!

Then we get to see Trevor Rogers take to the mound. He went three innings and allowed one run. Not the best outing, but hey, it was his first action of the spring. He was followed up by three innings from Elieser Hernandez (three innings with only one hit allowed).

I know the Fish aren't going to win 9-2 every game this season (might not even happen again during Spring Training), but I believe this is a sign of what's to come for the Marlins in 2022 and beyond.

If we see an outfield of Soler / Sánchez / García most of the season, that'll only make Sánchez better. You take the raw talent of the youngster in CF and add a two time World Series Champion (and WS MVP) in Soler and an almost 1000-game vet in García on both sides. He's only going to learn from them. I'm calling it now; if he plays consistently with those two he's going to be a star by the end of the season.

Adding the the bat of Jorge Soler also has to take a load off of the shoulders of Jesús Aguilar. He (Aguilar) had 93 RBI / 22 HR in 2021. Second on the team was Jazz who hit 53 / 18. Whether or not anyone says it, Aguilar had to feel some pressure every time he came to the plate. That's gone now (at least to a degree). He can just relax and play his game because even if he's having an off-night, #12 will help pick up the slack.

As I tweeted out today, the Marlins do not need to add any pieces (outside of maybe the bullpen) to be a contender in 2022. I'm not talking about just in the NL East, but in the Majors.
