Well it was certainly a different game today than yesterday, but like I said in my last post it’s Spring Training. It really doesn’t matter.

THAT BEING SAID.

Joey Wendle had another good outing on the scoresheet. He finished 3/3 with an RBI and one run scored. Over the six games he’s played in this spring he’s batting .438. Again, it’s Spring Training, but I’ll take that average over six games at any point. Wendle also stole a base today. Let’s hope he keeps that up during real games.

Jesús Luzardo had a good performance, striking out five and allowing one run over four innings of work. Like I said in a previous post, Luzardo has the raw talent to be a stud starter for years to come, and he’s showing it.

The loss on the afternoon went to Richard Bleier, who gave up three runs on three hits in just 0.2 innings. It was just his second game of the pre-season, and turned out to be his second loss. We know he’s better than this….in 2021 over his 68 games he posted an ERA of 2.95 for the Fish. I’m not overly worried.

I will say that something needs to happen with the Marlins’ bullpen. The club could score 10 runs over the first five innings while the starter is lights out, but it’ll all fall apart unless there are multiple reliable pitchers available for the late innings.

One player I‘m concerned about is Brian Anderson. Not only did the Fish go and get All-Star Joey Wendle (competition for 3B), but BA is only hitting .182 through his first five games of the spring. I know he’s never really had numbers that leap off the page at you, but I honestly believe unless he starts to show up on both sides of the game his days as a Marlin are coming to an end.

As I’ve said too many times to remember, it’s just Spring Training. These games don’t count.

On to the next one!
